Hi Guys,

I have just come across some information that leads me to believe that Winton has double booked the 20th of October. I am still waiting on confirmation from them, but as they have been hard to contact at the best of times I am yet again waiting for a call back to find out what is going on.

As you could all imagine its been a long & hard process to organise this thus far & I am unsure I have the time & energy to make it all happen again even if another date is given to us. From now until mid December I don't have any free time & wouldn't ask all of you to make other arrangements to try & make yourselves available on another date.

Im sure weekdays will still be available there but in saying that I cant be certain & I cant ask everyone to take a day off work. The only other option I can offer if you do want to go to the track day is to join the people that have booked it on the day. although this is a sprint event & you will need all the appropriate safety equipment that goes along with a sprint. (some of you will have this but many wont) For those that want to go to Winton on that day please let me know & I will be happy & arrange that for you (pending availability).

The other option is a go-kart day at ACE KARTS on the 21st (the day after the Winton day was to be), they have a few good deals going for bucks days & I will be arranging to have my bucks there unless Winton miraculously tells me that the other party has got there dates confused & our day is going ahead (which I cant see happening)

If you would like to join me ACE KARTS please let me know, if you would like your money back please email me at zokstoj@optusnet.com asap with all the details you gave me in the initial deposit & I will organise a refund.

Please decide by the weekend so I can make a booking with ace karts as they have very little spots left on Sunday (the 21st) & no spots left on the Saturday. If you would like to call me & discuss your options please do so on 0438 88 38 34.

I am very sorry it has come to this & I am heart broken, no other words can describe how I am feeling at the moment but we must move on. My main concern was getting numbers when it should have been making sure the track was ontop of things. I guess I will know for next time (if there is a next time)

I will also be posting this on the forums but if there is someone that you know may not receive this information please let them know the situation asap as I don't want to be misleading.

To everyone that did the right thing & has supported me I thank you for giving me the opportunity to try & live my dream but it just wasn't to be this time.

Once again if you do want to do the next best thing please let me know asap so I can book the go-kart track & not loose out on any other opportunities.

Zoran

Hey guys the time has come to start planning my bucks & I have been wondering what to do for it.......

At first i was thinking of going gokarting & having a BBQ but with gokarting sessions costing around $70 for about an hour plus the bbq it would have only taken up about 2-3 hours of the day/night which would have left me wondering what we would do for a few more hours.........

So it was back to the drawing board & after much thinking, i have decided to rent out either Winton Raceway, or DECA for the day. If we go to Winton we would be looking at the 20th of October, as yet I have not looked into DECA as I would like to go to a dedicated track if we can collect the funds & will only look at DECA if I cannot get the numbers we need to pay for Winton. Both guys & girls are invited to this so I don’t think you will be seeing the usual strippers & there will be NO drinking on or near the track, but that doesn’t mean we wont have a ball.

The basics are:

race around the track as much as you like, when you like & if there is enough interest we can do
a cars session a bike session & a drift session

I have also been offered a camping ground for people to camp out on on sat night, if you would like to do this please let me know, im sure a lot will
:D

Also if people want photo's of there cars & a dvd of the day im looking at having a photographer there so please let me know if that would be of interest to you

as a general rule Winton put 20-30 cars on the track per session with out any problems & well spread out on their fun days, by request we have been asked to do smaller sessions so we will be looking at 10-15 cars on the track at a time, thats even more room for mistakes

here is the Winton track & map
[/img]

I will also have a bbq running all day
a D.J out on the grass area
& am looking at having a band or 2 there as well
so pretty much (i hope) everything you would need or want for a great party

things you would need

a car to drive around the track in
a helmet
long sleeve top, pants & shoes
& around $100 for the whole day plus fuel
If you dont hold a current L2 cams licence or a AASA licence you will need an extra $50 on the day

I will need a minimum of 60 people to make this possible so please let all your mates know
I would also need a 50% deposit as soon as the track is hired out to cover the deposit of the track.

I would also need an $80 deposit as soon as possible to cover the deposit of the track.
Please deposit to

Hope to hear from you asap so I can secure a booking.

hey guys there will be prizes on the day for

biggest off
best driver
worst driver
slowest driver
hard luck award
best drift
& any more i can think of as i go along :)
feel free to add any

Um sounded good, and then I thought about random strangers turning up getting wasted then trying to drive....I could be wrong, but there will be no alcohol there I would imagine? If that's ok then you could be set, but there are plenty of options for bucks stuff....and your wedding crew should be doing the work as well.......I can suggest a few other options that aren't as expensive if you want.

I wouldnt want to be any where near a race track, fast cars and alcohol. I'm sure you have thought of all this though, and you have you got scrutineers that know what to look for and to stop people that are taking out dangerous and unsafe cars on the track and driving at speeds endangering both the driver and other people on the track with unfit cars. I'm guessing you need all the usual goodies, like a fire extinguisher, helmet and so on. And I'm sure youve organised ambo's, fire dept. for the day as the race track aint like DECA.

Could you provide more details of how much, and what we need to bring, as there are more than a few people here form the Victorian chapter of ozmazda.com that would love to come along.

AS WITH ANY RACE TRACK....there will be NO ALCOHOL on the day, at the moment we are leaning towards Sandown & that is a high speed track, i need everyone to be fit to drive, if they want to piss up they will have there driving band removed from them & wont be allowed on the track. SIMPLE no if's no buts no maybe's...

If you can confirm the date and cost, assuming it's Sandown, I would be interested and if you allow I would like to also bring the keen racers from EXE. Or is this going to be strictly Mazda's only?

Also, how would the event be run? Split into groups according to lap times to minimise overtaking? Space or time between letting cars on to the track?

Thanks.

hey unco, should have the date & cost in the next day or two, but like i said we are looking at 13th of Oct for Sandown or 20th for Winton, EVERY ONE is welcome. the event will be split into groups, depending on what track we go for (although its looking like Sandown atm) & depending on what cars come out. but if people do need to over take it will only be done when it is safe & the slower car gives way, just like any fun day you would go to.

im debating if i should do it as a CAMS event or not, if it is cams people would need to follow all the cams guidelines which out take some fun out of it & add additional costs to things you will need for the car. I will be talking to the tracks in detail about it & deciding from there.

anyone interested please let me know, i need to make a booking at the end of this week & am still short 20 odd people. if i cant get the numbers i wont be able to hold the event

Thanks for the information.
Do you have a list of cars that are already confirmed as going?
I'm definately interested, those two dates surround my birthday. Would love to have a final shot at Winton to break my PB but also a 2nd time at Sandown would give my left tyres a break from Winton haha.

Also if there is going to be a drift session (assuming the track officials allow), better of having it to close the day so no dirt gets thrown on to the track by people spinning off.

I'll let you know soon if I can make it.

I'd love to be there - I'm sure the EXE boys will come along - as too may some of the On The Run Motorsport lads when they hear about it !!

Great idea - will be a tad odd to meet ya for the first time at ya buck's but I'd be glad to have a crack at Sandown (if that's the go !!) - as Unco said, my left hand tyres need a break too !!

Thanks

I put it to the EXE guys and they're just a little hesitant at the moment, especially Silas (never thought I'd be saying that). I haven't spoken to the On The Run Motorsports guys about this yet though.

They're just a bit worried about the fact that there will be 60 cars racing at a high speed track like Sandown and no CAMs license is required. Anyone will be able to attend and (touch wood) it could end up being a tow-truck driver's dream day.

But having said that, we're still interested pending more information :D

I think if the On The Run guys came along.. it'd be a bit harder to run the event because they have race prepared cars.. and mixing them in with what seems to be a lot of first timers going there for fun and to test their street cars, it could be a problem?

You don't need a CAMS licence for the Winton EXE days do you? If you make it CAMS sanctioned then you need everyone to have Level 2S licences don't you? Thats $90 extra. Plus you need all the other regs like taped lights, min 1kg fire extinguisher in the car etc. There's a BMW track day coming up at Sandown for 50-60 cars i think it is as well but it is a CAMS sanctioned day so you need all the requirements, need a 2S licence, need to be a member of a CAMS club etc... and the cost is $210 for the day, $88 for licence and $10 for a day membership to the club... so considerably more than what sprx3 is talking about atm.

I think he was still up in the air if it was CAMS approved or not. Obviously it makes it more expensive yes. But I understand what unco is saying. Its not like the road, where if somthing happens have TAC and insurnace to bail you out, if things turn nasty. That being the case, you'd want it to be as safe as possible. 50-60 cars is ALOT!

Hey guys as ive updated in the first post sandown is out of the questions for all the above reasons regarding CAMS, there is also a $1000 permit fee that Cams want for the day, which as you could imagine is just out of the question when you already need to spend so much just hiring the track.

ok just to point a few things out, cars will NOT BE RACING each other, Winton fun days have around 25-30 cars on the track at a time (which sounds like alot until you see how spread out they are) all going around at there own pace, some are faster some are slower, those that are faster & need to overtake will have to wait for a signal by the slower car to pass so it is done in a safe way & everyone knows whats going on, if people do what to race there mates YES they do need to be prepared to pay for a long tow home, but in saying that i know of two spare trailers that will be there & guys that will gladly tow people home for petrol money & some lunch for any break downs.

YES there are risks but as will be explained in detail on the day, these fun days happen every week at winton & if there is a mishap its normally the owners fault rather then someone elses.

If you follow the track rules which are very much like road rules, you will get there & drive back safely & have a lot of fun.

To go back to sessions, if i do see cars that are much faster the the norm, i will put them in a session of their own & if people dont feel safe i can spread them out as well just like having easy, medium & hard driving sessons where everyone will feel safe & have a ball.

b.t.w, if you want to see what the winton track is like have a look at your t.v set this week end or even better go out for a drive & have a look at the super cars ....

GUYS, please feel free to ask me any questions that you may not understand OR i havent explain or explained well & i will be more then happy to answer them for you....

oh & anyone interested please let me know asap as i need to confirm numbers to be able to book the track

thanks again

Ah good too hear some people know what fun is about

i should have a lot more details this week as now Winton wont be flat out with all the prep work for the super cars, so im hoping to have deposit details in the next few days....

Ive also posted on
aus-cartalk.com (the mx5 forum)
ausrotary.com (the mazda rotary forum)
ozmadza.com (here)
ozmazdaclub.com (other mazda forum)
& mazdacarclub.org.au (otherwise known as the mazda car club of australia in which i am the secretary of)

i have been a long time member of ausrotary as up until a few weeks ago i had a series 3 rx7 with a lot of goodies making around 250 rwkw. I now own a 98 mx5 which im looking to do a few engine mods on as it already has lots of suspension work done on it & is well suited to track days.

i try to get on all the mazda forums but very rarley post on them just to keep up with what is going on.

In saying this if anyone would like to be a part of the mcca to do more of this kind of stuff id be more then happy to help out in steering them in the right direction......

so who else is in?

p.s this is an opened field so im not just targeting mazda's even though they are my first love.... if you have any other mates or jump on any other forums & want to let them know about this i would be very thankful...

cheers
Zoran
